Meet a whole new community of everyday people embracing, protecting and capturing the beauty of the UK outdoors in Step 3 of Dayhike.

‘What began as our own interest has connected us with a broader community who share the same values. We could be standing beside an ecologist studying a rare moss or chatting with a folk artist about their craft. They couldn’t be more different, yet the same thread runs through everyone we meet: a deep connection to nature.’
– Ross & Kyri, Dayhike Founders

Putting community at the heart of the outdoors
Soraya Abdel-Hadi and Frankie Dewar chat to us about the importance of diversity and representation in the outdoors, and how to create lasting and meaningful change in your communities.

A deep dive into wild swimming
Sara Barnes guides us into icy cold waters and shares her wild swimming journey, from recovering after major leg surgery to the thrill of entering a winter swimming championship in Latvia.

The jigsaw of life
An interview with conservation scientist and ecologist Robbie Blackhall-Miles on his work protecting and nurturing Welsh mountain ecosystems, and why outdoor guides are some of conservation’s most valuable people.

Simon Owens - Wildest Ones
Director, filmmaker and photographer Simon Owens answers our questions on getting into wildlife photography and how posting his work on social media led to a documentary series telling the stories of people whose lives have been drastically improved by nature.

Don’t throw it out just yet
Katy Frances teaches us the art of repairing rather than replacing our treasured outdoors gear – whether it’s a broken zip or a worn-out water repellent coating, Katy’s got you covered in her beginner’s guide to building a DIY repair kit.

Creating a confidence culture
Our sub-editor David Guest asks the question: would we know how to respond if we came across a seriously injured fellow hiker? And discusses the vital but often overlooked need for outdoor first-aid training.

All of this and much more in Step 3 of Dayhike.
